Checklist for community servers
If your community runs a server, or is about to, work through this. Most of it takes an evening.
This week
- Pick QONZER, BisectHosting or xREALM, the three hosts BULKHEAD has approved. Have a second choice in case your region is out of stock.
- Settle region, language and ruleset, and write them into the server name.
- Publish a rules page. Short. Link it from Discord and, if the host allows, the server MOTD.
- Line up admins across your peak hours and assume no RCON on day one.
- Submit the server to this list so players searching by region and language find it.
Opening day
- Post the exact server name everywhere. The browser filters by region only; people find you by name.
- Seed it. A 100-player map is dead under 30 people, so agree a start time.
- One reports channel, one person triaging.
- Watch performance and tell your host straight away if it degrades. Matching official server performance is the condition of their approval.
First month
- Note when your server fills by day of week and schedule restarts outside those windows.
- Keep your listing here up to date: status, links, rule changes.
- When the RCON tool ships, be one of the communities that tests it early and reports back.
