WARDOGS server browser showing no servers

An empty server browser is almost never an outage. It is nearly always a filter, a search term or the browser being asked to show several regions at once. Work through this in order; the whole thing takes two minutes and you never need to reinstall.

First, check whether anything is actually down

Before touching a setting, look at our status page. It watches the same browser your game does, in every zone, once a minute:

  • If it says the servers are up and lists thousands of them, the problem is on your side and the steps below will fix it.
  • If it shows official servers dropping or a zone returning nothing, you are seeing a restart or maintenance. Wait; restarting the game puts you at the back of the queue.
  • If it cannot see the browser at all, the game’s backend is not answering, and nothing on your PC will change that.

Fix the filters

The browser remembers what you set last time, and a few of its settings hide everything when combined:

  • Region: select exactly one. Several regions at once has shown an empty list rather than a combined one; if you want to compare zones, switch between them.
  • Official and community: make sure the type you want is switched on. Official servers are numbered; community servers have names. If you are looking for a named server, you need community servers showing.
  • Show empty and show full: with both off during a quiet hour, or during a busy one, a whole zone can vanish. Turn both on, then narrow down.
  • Search: clear the box. Search matches a substring of the full name, and community names are full of tags and separators, so a full name copied from a video usually matches nothing. Three or four characters from the name is enough.
  • Password: if there is a locked-servers toggle, check it is not set to show only those.

Refresh, do not restart

After each change press refresh and give it a few seconds; the list is cached and does not always redraw on its own. Restarting the game does nothing a refresh does not, and if there is a login queue it sends you to the back of it.

If the list stays empty with every filter open and one region selected while our status page shows servers in that region, quit to the main menu and reopen the browser once. That clears a stuck session without a full restart.

Use a join code instead

Every server has a join code. Type it into the browser and you go straight to that server, filters or not. Our live server list shows the code for every server online right now, and each community server’s page here shows its current code, so you can pick a server with free slots on this site and skip the browser’s list entirely.

Community Discords usually pin their codes too. If a server has a password, that is where you get it.

Last resorts

Only if the browser is still empty with servers visibly up:

  • Verify the game files in Steam (right-click WARDOGS, Properties, Installed Files). A client on a different build from the servers sees none of them. This is rare and only matters right after a patch.
  • Check that WARDOGS and its anti-cheat are allowed through your firewall, and try a wired connection if you are on Wi-Fi.
  • Do not reinstall. Nothing about an empty list is fixed by reinstalling, and it puts you offline for an hour.

Questions

Why does the WARDOGS server browser show no servers?

Usually a filter: more than one region selected, official or community servers switched off, show-empty and show-full both off, or a search term left in the box. Set one region, switch everything on, clear the search and refresh. Check our status page first to rule out an outage.

Should I verify game files or reinstall WARDOGS?

Verify only if the browser is still empty after fixing the filters and our status page shows servers up; it helps when your client is on an older build than the servers. Reinstalling fixes nothing here.

How do I join a specific WARDOGS server?

Enter its join code in the server browser. Every server’s code is on its page here and in our live list, and community Discords pin theirs.
